Ellen Page announced today she’s joining the Board of Directors at the Tegan and Sara Foundation.
The actor, who recently married dancer Emma Portner, made the announcement on Instagram.
‘Tegan and Sara have stood as a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ individuals since the start of their careers more than twenty years ago,’ Page wrote.
‘Their music and their message have inspired and empowered thousands around the world, myself included.
They are trailblazers in our community, speaking out on behalf of those who feel they will never be heard. Their platform is a reminder to us all that even in our most isolating struggles, we are not alone.
It is a true privilege to be working alongside them & the other incredible women on this board. With the Tegan and Sara Foundation, we can continue to elevate the voices of women & non-binary in the LGBTQ+ & work to transform our global community into one of inclusivity.’
On their own Instagram page, the foundation said it’s ‘an honor’ to have Page join the Board.
Twin sister music duo Tegan and Sara created the Foundation.
As explained on the website, the organization ‘fights for health, economic justice and representation for LGBTQ girls and women’. Their mission is ‘founded on a commitment to feminism and racial, social and gender justice’.
Some of their work includes supporting various other organizations. They work with the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, who focuses on advancing LGBTQI human rights around the globe. Another group they work with is The Audre Lorde Project, which helps LGBTQI people with ‘support circles, health and wellness programming and safe neighborhood initiatives’.
