Juno

It’s been a recurring concern since the presidential election: how can we help Planned Parenthood if, in the worst case scenario, it’s defunded by the federal government?

Apart from individual donations and calls to action at events like the Women’s March, other unique ideas have been popping up – most recently a live reading of the 2007 coming of age film Juno, headed by original cast members Ellen Page and Jennifer Garner. The beauty of it? It will be an all-female read.

Jason Reitman, who was nominated for an Oscar for directing the film, had been conducting a live script-reading series which he put on hold last April. But like many others, election results and the following social turmoil have spurred Reitman into action, choosing to revive his series with Juno.

“Like many other people, I felt like I wanted to do something,” Reitman told EW. “I wanted to find a way to contribute to the causes that have never felt more important. It occurred to me that I have this show that could be used as a tool to not only raise money for causes that need the help, but could serve as an opportunity for a group like Planned Parenthood to connect with an audience who can be presented with new ideas, or even an action item.”

The Juno live read will take place at the Ace Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, April 8 – tickets can be found here. Read the full EW article here.
