» Toronto Sun - Young stars who will stick around

A clutch of young stars is established, marquee names who can open a film and sustain a career past the ripe age of 25. They give Hollywood hope.

Several are even bona fide actors and not just celebrities. Potential superstar Joseph Gordon-Levitt is already 31; Andrew Garfield, Jesse Eisenberg, Chris Hemsworth and Mila Kunis are all 28; Rooney Mara is 27; Amanda Seyfried turned 26 last Dec. 3rd, Robert Pattinson made it there May 13 and Shia LaBeouf on June 11.

But who is next? Who among the 25-and-younger crowd will still be around at 30? We pick five younger stars we think have similar staying power:

JENNIFER LAWRENCE, 21: Born in Louisville, Kentucky, August 15, 1990. Thanks to her stunning performance as the Ozarks girl with all the guts in Winter’s Bone, Lawrence earned more award citations for a single film than many actors do for a career. Her Oscar nomination as best actress was among the honours and it won’t be her last dance at that ball. After her breakout, Lawrence scored in the ensemble of X-Men: First Class and busted out even bigger as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. Sexy, smart, attractive, skilled and absurdly savvy for her age, Lawrence will not only survive Hollywood, she will thrive.

KRISTEN STEWART, 22: Born in Los Angeles, California, April 9, 1990: I know she mopes around endlessly as Bella Swan. But, before Twilight, Sean Penn was impressed, showcasing her in his opus, Into the Wild, and recommending her to Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke. See what she does in On the Road, the Beat generation drama. Plus she already has a hit with Snow White and the Huntsman. There is more here than a hangdog look of longing.

MIA WASIKOWSKA, 22: Born in Canberra, Australia, Oct. 14, 1989. In early Hollywood, a studio would already have changed her name to something curt and cute. Today she can be herself — and there is a lot to like. Her breakout came in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, with a nuanced turn that helped give that fairytale its emotion. Watch her morph in John Hillcoat’s Prohibition thriller Lawless.

DANIEL RADCLIFFE, 22: Born in London, England, July 23, 1989. I think it stinks that Radcliffe has not been fully recognized for the quality of his performances throughout Harry Potter. Growing up in front of our eyes, and graduating from a master class in acting simply by doing it, he was taken for granted by the time of Deathly Hallows. Now he works feverishly to establish an adult career. I’m fascinated to see if the thriller, Kill Your Darlings, gets made with Radcliffe as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg.

ELLEN PAGE, 25: Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Feb. 21, 1987, as Ellen Philpotts-Page. Debuted in Canuck TV movie Pit Pony in 1997. She is the anti-glamour tomboy girl — small, feisty and as sexy for her intelligence as her looks. She scored an Oscar nom as best actress for Juno (2007) and we suspect it won’t be her last, even with missteps such as Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love.
