After hearing two months ago that Woody Allen would be setting his next movie in Rome, further details have come in at a pretty quick rate. We have a title (The Wrong Picture, for those keeping track), a main cast, and now weve heard that a famous Italian star may be making a cameo in the film.
Deadline reports that Robert Benigni, best known for his Oscar-winning film Life is Beautiful, may be joining the cast. The exact details on it are fairly quiet, with the only real piece of information being that hell join the ensemble cast. I initially imagined this would only be a quick cameo, but that statement leads me to believe that hell be one of the main players here.
Were supposed to expect an announcement of some sort at this years Cannes Film Festival, which will have Allens Midnight in Paris as the opening film. Other than that, though, we dont know much. I think Benigni could be a pretty interesting fit for one of his movies, as the comedic actors somewhat broad sensibilities would serve as an interesting contrast to Allens more pinpoint, neurotic style. Another thing I feel from reading about this movie, at least is that this is one of the first movies of his in a long time that Ive actually found myself legitimately excited to see.
The Wrong Picture currently stars Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin and Penelope Cruz, and will begin production this summer, with a release expected for next year.
