It's been three and a half years since neo-classical/ambient duo Stars of the Lid released their career-topping album And Their Refinement of the Decline. Since then, the project has remained mostly dormant aside from some standalone performances. In their off time, though, Lid member Brian McBride has been busy composing the soundtrack for a documentary.
The film is called Vanishing of the Bees and explores the various implications as honey bees face extinction across the world. McBride's soundtrack, called The Effective Disconnect, complements this with four themes laid out in a press release: the gloriousness of the bees, the endurance and hardships of traditional beekeepers, pesticides and the holistic nature of non-industrial agriculture.
The Effective Disconnect will be released by Kranky on October 25. A trailer for Vanishing of the Bees, including some excerpts from the soundtrack, can be streamed below.
McBride previously released a solo album called When the Detail Lost Its Freedom in 2005.
