Ellen Page joins the voice cast of »My Life As a Zucchini« and takes a stand against the Dakota Access pipeline from 12/22/2016
Independent animation distributor GKIDS has announced the English-language voice cast for »My Life As a Zucchini« (Ma Vie de Courgette). The French-Swiss stop motion animated film, which features the voices of Ellen Page, Will Forte, Nick Offerman and Amy Sedaris, will have its world premiere in English at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival next month ahead of its domestic theatrical release in February 2017.

»My Life As a Zucchini« is the official submission from Switzerland and has been shortlisted for the "Best Foreign Language" category for the 2017 Academy Awards, where it will also be competing for "Best Animated Feature". It was recently nominated for "Best Animated Motion Picture" for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, named the "Best Animated European Film" by the European Film Awards, and "Best Swiss Film" by the Association of Swiss Film Critics.

After making its acclaimed world premiere earlier this year in the Director’s Fortnight section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the film went on to win both the Grand Prize (Cristal) and Audience Award at the 2016 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and beat out 350 features to win the Audience Award - Best Feature at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Ma Vie de Courgette

Official synopsis:

After his mother’s sudden death, Zucchini is befriended by a police officer, Raymond, who accompanies him to his new foster home, filled with other orphans his age. At first he struggles to find his place in this at times strange and hostile environment.

But with Raymond’s help and his newfound friends, Zucchini eventually learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own. Brought to life through striking character designs and expressive stop-motion animation, the story soars with laughter, sorrow, and joy, and stands as a testament to the resilience of the human heart. Beginning with its debut at Cannes, the film has stirred up an overwhelming response on the festival circuit, taking home top jury and audience prizes at Annecy, Melbourne and Angoulême, as it prepares to melt hearts with its U.S. debut at Sundance.

My Life As a Zucchini is produced by RITA Productions, Blue Spirit Productions, Gebeka Films and KNM, in coproduction with the RTS - Radio Télévision Suisse, SRG-SSR, France 3 Cinéma, Rhône Alpes Cinéma and Helium Films, with international sales handled by Indie Sales.

Ellen Page, her girlfriend Samantha Thomas and actress friend Catherine Keener joined Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Frances Fisher at the Supporting Standing Rock protest in Los Angeles this Wednesday and showed their solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's struggle against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). The multibillion-dollar pipeline project by Dakota Access, LLC is slated to carry half a million barrels of Bakken crude from North Dakota to Illinois. But members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, who are supported by nearly 100 other tribes from across the U.S. and Canada, say it threatens to contaminate the Missouri River, which provides water not only for thousands of residents on the reservation, but also for millions of people living downstream. If you like to find out more about the subject, we suggest you check out the project's official page at daplpipelinefacts.com as well as the websites of Stand With Standing Rock, DeFund DAPL and Democracy Now!.
