published on Saturday, January 20 2007 You heard it here first. We already know that Lindsay Lohan's latest rehab stint reportedly came after Spider-Man's James Franco rejected her love advances. With Paris Hilton's shoulders too bony to cry on, it was off to rehab. At Sundance to help promote the Catherine Keener-Ellen Page abuse drama An American Crime, Franco wandered the courtyard at the Park City Marriott, drifting from interview to photo shoot. I don't know the man but he looked disconsolate. When he sat down at our table, a Calgary journalist asked him about his new tabloid-fodder life. First Franco insisted that he shouldn't complain. Then he said, "As far as Lindsay, I'm friends with her and I hope she gets help." If this news helps soothe the actress and stoke the news cycle only a little bit, I can sleep easy tonight. It was an odd scene at the Marriott this afternoon. Publicists' offices flank the beige stone atrium, with some corners lit up for TV interviews. Journalists sit waiting at cheap patio tables while actors float here and there, guided by handlers and pleading occasionally for Diet Coke or soup. I sat with reporters from The Scotsman and Women's Wear Daily, waiting to talk to Franco, Keener and Page. Toronto publicist dynamo Stephen Lan charges by with Sarah Polley in tow. I say hello and Polley gives me a "hi" and a weak smile. Then, and this is the genius of Sarah Polley, she stops herself and says, "Don't you love it how I give you this little fake smile?" For just a second, she breaks the zombie atmosphere and you remember why she's so much more than a celebrity. Minutes later, Polley crosses the courtyard to say hello to Ellen Page, who's looking more than a little bleak. An American Crime is the story of a girl horrifically abused by her foster mother, and Page and Keener are having a hard time "promoting" the film. Page looks a little blank eyed when Polley greets her, but I can only hope that the moment pulled her out of the ghoulish promo cloud if only for a second. [...] Source: www.nowtoronto.com |
