»Into the Forest« is part of Canada's Top Ten Film Festival / »Freeheld« is now available as a VOD on YouTube

We're thrilled to share that »Into the Forest« has been selected as part of Canada's Top Ten Film Festival, which runs in Toronto from January 8 to 17 next year. Select screenings will also take place in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax and Ottawa. Established in 2001 by the Toronto International Film Festival, this celebration of excellence is designed to highlight the best feature-length films, short films and student short films the country has produced in the past year, and raise general awareness of Canadian achievements in film. Festival selections are chosen by two panels — one for features, one for shorts — of Canadian filmmakers and film industry professionals. To be eligible, films must be directed by a Canadian citizen or resident and have been released commercially or played a major film festival in Canada.

Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival

New this year, the 14th edition of the festival is offering a geographic twist with a simultaneous screening of Patricia Rozema's apocalyptic drama at Toronto's Bell Lightbox, Vancouver's The Cinematheque and Montreal's Phi Centre on Saturday, January 9 at 9:00pm ET, which includes a simulcast introduction and an interactive live stream Q&A session with the director. Ellen Page was originally scheduled to attend this event as well, according to thecinematheque.ca, but was unfortunately forced to cancel.

For more information, screening dates, venues and tickets please visit the festival's official website at tiff.net/festivals/ctt15!

TIFF TOASTS THE TRUE NORTH’S CINEMATIC BEST
Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival expands with three-city simulcast and coast-to-coast screenings
Celebrated lineup includes works by Patricia Rozema, Guy Maddin, Philippe Falardeau, Alan Zweig, plus an onstage conversation with Kiefer Sutherland

TORONTO — TIFF® salutes the country’s cinematic superstars tonight, revealing the Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival™ lineup of the top 10 features, shorts and student shorts for 2015. Established in 2001, the festival celebrates and promotes contemporary Canadian cinema and raises awareness of Canadian achievements in film. Running January 8 to 17, 2016 at TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto, the 10-day event presents public screenings of the selected films accompanied by introductions and Q&A sessions with filmmakers, as well as special events, industry panels and free engagements. On January 16, Golden Globe–, Emmy- and Screen Actors Guild Award–winning Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland will take the stage for an intimate discussion about his fascinating career. The 1985 landmark film My American Cousin rounds out the lineup as the festival’s Canadian Open Vault selection.

New this year, the festival will present a special screening simultaneously in three different cities, which includes a simulcast introduction and interactive Q&A offering audiences in Vancouver’s The Cinematheque and Montreal’s PHI Centre the chance to ask questions of the talent in Toronto. Select screenings from the lineup also return to Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg, with added stops in Halifax and Ottawa. Filmgoers in Toronto can once again vote to crown the Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival People’s Choice Award winner. These announcements were made at an industry event in Toronto tonight, hosted by Entertainment City’s Teri Hart.

“From exceptional debut features to veteran filmmakers at the top of their craft, Canadian talent from coast to coast cracked this year’s list,” said Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director, Toronto International Film Festival. “What better way to escape winter’s icy grip than with a toasty lineup of special guests and homegrown films presented in eight cities across the country.”

“One of our most geographically representative programmes to date, the strength of this year’s lineup is a testament to the diversity and curiosity of our nation’s filmmakers — from Newfoundland to British Columbia,” said Steve Gravestock, Senior Programmer, TIFF. “The collaborations from across the country demonstrate the versatility of our filmmaking community, delivering deeply engaging cinema in their exploration of Canadian values.”

Ellen Page attends a screening of the documentary film »Janis: Little Girl Blue« in Hollywood

ArcLight Cinemas hosted a screening of the Toronto International Film Festival premiered »Janis: Little Girl Blue« in Hollywood last night. Ellen attended this event alongside director Amy Berg and actress Juliette Lewis, who is one the female performers acknowledging Janis Joplin's influence on camera in the documentary film, and moderated the Q&A session that followed.

Janis: Little Girl BlueJANIS: LITTLE GIRL BLUE
A film by Amy Berg

In Janis: Little Girl Blue, Oscar® nominated Amy J. Berg (West of Memphis) presents a moving, insightful portrait of the original “Rock Chick” Janis Joplin, a white girl with a ferocious, soulful voice who broke into the male dominated music scene but grappled with her inner demons and addictions. Produced by Oscar® winner Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Darkside) and voiced by Chan Marshall (musician Cat Power), the film features wonderful archival footage alongside Janis’s personal correspondence and contemporary interviews. Janis: Little Girl Blue opens in UK cinemas 5th February 2016.

Janis Joplin is one of the most revered and iconic singers of all time, she electrified and thrilled millions of listeners with her powerful, soulful voice and blazed new creative trails before her death in 1971 at age 27. With massive hits including “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of My Heart,” and such classic albums as Cheap Thrills and Pearl, Joplin was one of the performers who embodied the musical and cultural revolution of the 1960s.

Yet her on-stage bravado and uninhibited sexual persona hid hurt and insecurity stemming from her childhood in conservative Texas. On relocating to San Francisco and discovering the blues, Janis found an outlet for her pain and loneliness and fell into a community that would embrace and celebrate her talent.

Janis: Little Girl Blue brings to life Janis the paradox, both insecure and brazen, with interviews from old band members, unseen audio and video footage (some shot by legendary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker), and readings from Janis’s letters home to her parents voiced by musician/actor Chan Marshall, who performs as Cat Power. Janis: Little Girl Blue offers new understanding of a bright, complex woman whose surprising rise and sudden demise changed music forever.

»Beyond: Two Souls« to be re-released on the PlayStation 4 next week

As announced on the official PlayStation Blog, Quantic Dream’s »Beyond: Two Souls« will be coming to the PlayStation 4 on November 24 in North America and on November 26 in other parts of the world. It will cost $29.99 (€29.99) and debut exclusively on the PlayStation Network Store as a digital download. There is, however, a physical package called "Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls Collection" planned for March 2016 which also includes - as the name already suggests - a revised version of the cinematic psychological thriller »Heavy Rain«. The PS4 edition of »Beyond« features the following improvements:
  • Enhanced 1080p graphics including motion blur, bloom and depth of field effects, as well as improved lighting and shadows. The game also makes use of the DualShock 4 speaker to improve immersion when playing as the Entity.
  • Decisions are highlighted at the end of each scene and compared with those made by other players.
  • You can now play the game in chronological order right from the start – a much requested feature in the PS3 version!
  • Increased difficulty in certain fight scenes, combined with improved controls for action sequences.
  • Includes the “Enhanced Experiments” DLC.
