I hope Ellen's career in indie films is not over. Nothing against Woody Allen, a great filmmaker.

This looks great, thanks for the update!

Woody Allen: "... the film is very broadly funny.", This is gonna be good :-)
I hope Ellen will get a major part in one of the vignettes.

Woody Allen finalizes »The Bop Decameron« cast / International + US/UK DVD & Blu-ray release dates for »SUPER« from 06/21/2011
Just because he’s going on 76 this year doesn’t mean that Woody Allen is ready to slow down just yet. The famous writer/ director has assembled yet another top-notch ensemble for his latest film project, currently entitled »The Bop Decameron«.

The full cast, which was announced yesterday, includes Alec Baldwin (»30 Rock«), Roberto Benigni (»Life is Beautiful«), Penélope Cruz (»Vicky Cristina Barcelona«), Judy Davis (»Husbands and Wives«), Jesse Eisenberg (»The Social Network«), Greta Gerwig (»Greenberg«) and Ellen Page (»Juno«). Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio, Alessandro Tiberi as well as a slate of other Italian actors are set to co-star. It has also been confirmed that the director himself will return to the screen after last appearing in his own 2006 film »Scoop«.

While details about the project are largely being kept under wraps, Allen mentioned the following at a press conference at the recent Cannes film festival in May:

"It's a broad comedy, not a romantic comedy, of various tales interwoven. I'm one of them, in one of them. All the parts are quite significant, there are no cameos. There just happened to be a part that I could play. I can't play the love interest anymore, which is tremendously frustrating. My wife and myself go to Rome because our daughter is going to marry an Italian boy that she met there, and we go over to meet him and meet his family, and what ensues. The film is very broadly funny."

In addition, Variety reported the film will be made up of four separate vignettes and the other stories will focus on an American couple and two Italian couples, although none of the individual storylines will intersect.

»The Bop Decameron« is Allen’s 47th directorial effort and shooting is expected to begin on location in Rome on July 11.

Here’s the official press release:

New York (June 20, 2011) – Woody Allen announced today the full cast for "The Bop Decameron," his latest film in pre-production. Starring, in alphabetical order, are: Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. Co-stars include Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi.

"The Bop Decameron" is a Gravier Productions film produced by Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum. This is Allen's first film to be financed by the Italian production and distribution company, Medusa Film. "The Bop Decameron" begins production on July 11 and marks Allen’s first time shooting in Rome. His latest film, "Midnight in Paris," is currently playing in theaters.

All »SUPER« fans from the United Kingdom have a reason to rejoice. G2 Pictures will not only unleash James Gunn’s eagerly awaited superhero comedy in UK cinemas on July 8, but will also release it on DVD and Blu-ray on August 1. This means it comes out one week before the U.S. launch on August 9. Although neither G2 nor IFC Films/MPI Home Video have announced any technical specifications or bonus features yet, Gunn has revealed both discs will include an audio commentary by him and actor Rainn Wilson, some deleted scenes and additional special features like a "Making of the Title Sequence" as well as hilarious behind-the-scenes footage from the sets in Shreveport and Los Angeles.

At the same time, the Japanese can look forward to fighting crime with the Crimson Bolt and Boltie starting July 30. The people in France, in turn, are less fortunate and have to wait a bit longer until they can see what happens "between the panels". French theater owners apparently became very squeamish about the violence in »SUPER« and decided to cancel the planned theatrical release. The film is still scheduled to arrive on DVD/Blu-ray some time later this year though. But don't worry, the Germans are facing a similar situation. We have a distributor, but there is no official word yet on how and when we will get to see it, except for some special screenings in a few major German cities in conjunction with this year's Fantasy Filmfest.

In this spirit, Shut Up, Crime!
